Selling your Books to Schools and Libraries – Part 2

Using Skype to sell more Books
Still another great MARKETING TIP … this one from Barbara Terchel, author of Class Act: Sell More Books Through School and Library Author Appearances (see my last post Part 1).
It appears that I have been so busy on whatever I am busy with that I have missed some of the great ways technology is helping authors sell their books today.
Barbara was interviewed regarding how she uses Skype to talk to schools assisted by her special dog, Frankie. It has cut her costs and increased her availability to such an extent that she has used Skype over 300 times for this type of visit. She gives you a detailed step-by-step description of everything you need to do and know, including setting up your studio in your home/office.
Listen to this fabulous presentation for yourself here on Blog Talk Radio.
Some interesting and useful websites they discussed.

Selling your book to Schools and Libraries – Part 1
Posted by: | CommentsI almost took too long deciding to get one of these books but managed to get two instead. I have a feeling I will be thanking these two authors for not cutting off sales of their joint book sale on October 15 as they had planned. I’ve had a rather busy week and almost missed buying these at a $13 saving. They are pdf files thus sent to you immediately … NO shipping costs. Great deal!
If you hurry,
you might be lucky too! Barbara’s website is: joyfulpaws.com/promote/sell-more-books/
The books are:
Class Act: Sell More Books Through School and Library Appearance (117 pgs.) by Barbara Techel
Marketing Your Book to Libraries, An Insiders Guide for Authors (153 pgs.) by Nancy Humphries
I loved this quote so borrowed it from her website. It could be most appropriate if reading these books makes our books successful!
“When you sell a man a book you don’t sell him just 12 ounces of paper and ink and glue – you sell him a whole new life.” – Christopher Morley
Book on Newfoundland Genealogy
Posted by: | CommentsUpdated: October 14/11
**If you are interested in Newfoundland genealogy** there is a wonderfully researched book featuring many of the old families of this area.
The author is now working on Book 2. These books are only available through the author when they are in print.
“They Lived By The Sea” (Book 1) is a remarkably well researched 400 page coil-bound book (so it will lie flat while doing research) written by M. Elizabeth Squires. To quote promotional material: “there are 111 individual Taylors, 104 Bemisters, 83 Joyces, 46 Footes, 43 Guys, 36 Peaches, 36 Pikes, 29 Penneys, 28 Parsons and many Camerons, Forwards, Udells, Maddocks, Hopkins and Goulds, as well as members of other families.”
For more information: Please contact:
M. Elizabeth Squires, 32 Woodwynd St., St. John’s, NL A1A 3C9 (709) 753-5088

When I last spoke with her, Mrs. Squires was collecting information for Book 2.

Love my Samsung Galaxy S2 Android
Posted by: | CommentsI finally give in to temptation and buy a Smart Phone!
I’ve had my Galaxy S2 for 10 days now and basically I love it! There are so many things to learn when you’ve never used a cellphone except to keep contact with your husband and a few family members, very occasionally (I’m in the office most of the time!). My last phone was on an ‘emergency’ plan and cost $15/mo. with no contract. I have steered away from ‘contracts’ because my last one was 9 years ago and I ended up with a rotten phone … yes, the company admitted it years later but all they would do at the time was give me another new, rotten phone that echoed back at the caller. So I stuck it out and rarely used it until the 3 yrs ran out … they lost my business for 9 years and possibly forever.
Then I went with Bell for 9 years under a Pay & Go Plan. My hubbie and I had matching ‘emergency’ phones. That’s what you use when you don’t have money to waste on something you don’t have time to play around with!! Now, it looks like I will be with Bell for the next 3 years!
I have eMail (not my main account), Facebook, Kobo and Kindle ebook reader apps, an 8GB camera and many many more that look really promising. The photo quality is remarkable.
Yes, I am researching a bunch of other apps but haven’t taken the time to figure out how to use most of them yet … Gallery, Picasa, GPS, radio, music. I would really love to be able to play my music on it … all in its own good time!
